Great Dane Breed Standard

nig1.jpg (15054 bytes) Danes are one of the largest dog breeds. Spade head, broad muzzle, wide feet, deep chest, tapered and cropped ears, and lively eyes are all part of the conformation of the Dane. Great Danes are spirited, courageous, always friendly and dependable, and never timid or aggressive. Great Danes are easily recognized by their resonate, deep bark.

General Appearance:

The Great Dane combines, in its regal appearance, dignity, strength and elegance with great size and a powerful, well-formed, smoothly muscled body. It is one of the giant working breeds, but is unique in that its general conformation must be so well balanced that it never appears clumsy. Great Danes should never show aggression, fear, or shyness. Bold, friendly pride is the mark of a Dane and this shows in the eyes and carriage of the dog. Those showing little to no personality will be marked 1-2 points and any showing uncharacteristic attitudes will be DQed.
